Materials: polyethylene grass most closely resembles natural grass and is soft underfoot; polypropylene is used for thatch and budget carpets; nylon grass is the sturdiest and offers the best heat resistance. Premium turf has a dense stitch count (high density turf has over 20,000 stitches per square meter) and a durable, water-resistant PU backing with perforations for rapid drainage.
Dubai’s local climate is the main reason to choose premium artificial grass rather than budget carpet. Direct sunlight and high temperatures break down cheap fibres within a season or two, so premium turfs are treated for UV protection. Sand and dust are the other challenge, which is why proper drainage design matters: a perforated, permeable backing and a well-drained base let water and cleaning run through quickly, prevent pooling and bad odours, and cope with intense rainfall when it does come.
Like any outdoor surface, artificial grass can reach surface temperatures of 60°C to 70°C in direct summer sun. Lighter-toned yarns, cooling infills and shade from pergolas or trees help keep the surface comfortable, and a quick rinse cools it within minutes.
